Worked on the design in Rhino, and have made a few improvements.
I refined the base two possible options one with straight legs, and one with diagonal legs. neither are tested for stability yet
attached the monitor stand to the part that moves, so that it adjusts auto-magically when the desk is adjusted.
Beefed up the vertical column support.
Added a place for a desktop to sit on the legs.
It’s not in the render, but I thought about adding a weight on a pully to counter balance the desk when it’s adjusted. Kind of like weight machines at the gym.
I’d also like to try 3d printing a hook for headphones, and adding casters. Will give a go at building it in the near future. I need a new desk.
here’s a couple of photos, let me know what you think.
Finally getting around to building this desk. Real stoked with how it has turned out. I decided to go with the angled base as it used fewer beams. In total it uses 11x 30gu beams and 1x 30x10gu panels.
Then added the base. I needed a couple of threaded rods to connect the 5 beams across the bottom. Just used some wing nuts to tighten it down, and just left the threaded rods long for now. I really liked using the wing nuts, supper easy for assembly and has a nice look.
After I got the base completed, I made the desk part, which is completely separate from the tower. this is how it is adjusted. Basically the weight of the desk leverages against the column keeping it in place. Though I did put a couple of loose bults under it just incase it slips.
I was real worried it wouldn’t be stable, but it’s surprisingly stable. There’s a little wobble in the tower, maybe if I added some plywood the the sides of the tower It would increase the stability, but I’m happy with it as is.
Now it’s time to 3D print some pieces for it. I’m gonna try and add a counterweighted pully for the desk, and a place to put my head phones.
@mixmix Thanks! Now that it’s been in action for a few weeks, I’ve got a list of changes I want to make.
The wobble is more rotational around the column, Though It doesn’t really affect the use, it doesn’t inspire confidence either.
Yea, after I made it, Mikey said the same thing, and it cracked me up because, I also know of Limber desk, and didn’t realise I had made a Grid Kit clone until Mikey mentioned it.
Here’s an update of the things, I’ve done since the last post.
3D printed the pully, and added a nylon cord. One end of the cord is tied to the desk/monitor frame, and the other side is tide to a big chunk of steel my buddy got me from his job as a CNC laser operator.
